Gunung Mas
I recently came across a very interesting series of books called Puncak Trek Guidebook.
Specifically designed for trekkers they would also be suitable for birders who don't mind climbing a few hills and can read maps of GPS.
There are four books in the series with accompanying maps and each book features four walks so 16 treks in total.
The areas covered are Ciawi, Cipanas, Cisarua and Cugenang.
One walk that may interest bird watchers is C3 in the Cisarua area neat Gunung Mas. On one trek their the author, Alex Korns, and his team heard or spotted 34 different birds including:
Cave Swiftlet, Black Eagle, Bar winged Prinia, Drongo Cuckoo among many others.
If you're interested in birding these areas and knowing more about the walks please contact Alex direct through his website
I have just tried one of the treks, that at Nangleng, but I was so busy trying to keep my balance I saw little beyond a kingfisher and a silouette of a raptor!
